Support – Find a buddy, or book an online coach
Enlisting a buddy is a tried and tested method to help you stick to your program. Your buddy is like your motivational coach. Yes, they are there to provide you with objective feedback about how you are doing as you go along, but, they are also there to help make your exercise sessions more enjoyable. It is common that the buddy gets just as much out of the shared experience as you do.
Your buddy can also help to keep you on track when you are having ‘one of those days’ – and they do happen. If you have scheduled exercise sessions with a buddy, it can deter drop off, especially when cancelling a session means you are cancelling for two.
How do you pick your buddy?
It is easy to pick someone convenient like your spouse, a son or daughter, or a friend. Whoever you choose, make sure that they know they are making a serious commitment to helping you. That means time and energy. This is another really good reason to schedule your exercise sessions so that you can choose a time that suits you both.
If you do not have a buddy at hand or would prefer to train with someone new, consider posting in the 10wc Private group to find one or reach out to us to see if we can match you with someone else doing the program. Alternatively you can book into online coaching with one of our Level 4 qualified instructors who make excellent buddies and will definitely keep you accountable during the challenge.
Your buddy is most important in the early stages when you may not know your potential; how hard you can work; how powerful your movements can be and how much you can upscale the size of your movements. We would probably recommend training with your buddy every day in the first week. Over time you probably won’t need as much help from them and might only need to work out with them every couple of days. You are still working out every day though remember!
The role of your buddy is to provide you with constructive feedback, even when you don’t want to hear it. Constructive, meaningful feedback is designed to improve the way you are doing your exercises, not tear you to shreds. For this reason it is important that you trust your buddy and the feedback they are giving you. It is a good idea to lay some ground rules in the early stages to make sure training with a buddy is an uplifting experience, not one that shakes your confidence.
