February Warrior Spirit Award Winner – Richard Damien Moore

Dick is prime example of how a modified version of PD Warrior can still provide control of your Parkinson’s even at 90+ years young! That is if you have the Warrior Spirit!

Here is Dick’s inspirational story:

“Who is Dick Moore?
Where has he been?
Where does he want to go?
Born Number 10 into farming family of 12, home schooled until aged 10, boarding school for 8 years, work for and enjoyed promotion at Kodak for 34 years.

Studied and CPA, married Jill, 9 children and 12 grand and 5 great grandchildren! Left Kodak, played ordinary golf, committee and Club Captain Green Acres Golf Club, mature-age BA Deakin University (History and Sociology), Consultant accountant Catholic Education facilities, widowed 2007, in 2010 sold home and moved happily to present retirement village, stopped working at end of 2019.August 2018 underwent aortic valve replacement and triple bypass surgery. Obviously successful!

St Vincent Hospital rehab suggested that balance difficulty and occasional tremors required attention. Shortly after PD, albeit mild stages, was diagnosed.

Some weeks involvement followed in programs designed for PD victims. These were provided initially by St Vincent’s rehab and later by Boroondara Council where on enquiry it was suggested that “googling” PD Warrior would reveal the source of the exercises on which the program was based.

THE REST IS HISTORY. I BECAME A MELISSA FAN and mid to late 2019 became A WARRIOR and completed the 10 WEEK CHALLENGE and in the process gained benefits but did not excel.

For six months into 2020 regular exercise addiction and associated well-being wow moments from friendly comments on healthy appearance ended after jogging in the park damaged a knee restricted mobility and enthusiasm.

Subsequent fall damaged a shoulder and a fractured fibula. 4 weeks in hospital and rehab and a further 12 weeks Donvale Rehab Hospital Outpatient PD Program.
That is where we are today. Still a Tribe 365 Warrior who because of wounds had laid down his shield and sword who now wants to pick them up and again and join the battle against the PD foe.

To do this will involve the tackling of and commitment to a renewal of a regular exercise program and continuing contact with the TRIBE for encouragement and support as his PD evolves.

Tracker

Tracker

The tracker is designed to help you track the amount of time you spend in scheduled exercise each day. Scheduled exercise is activity you have prioritised in your day for health and to help slow your Parkinson’s down. This might include PD Warrior exercise, fast walking, golfing, going to the gym etc. It does not include incidental activity such as housework & gardening (although we hope this increases too). The aim of the tracker is to help you build an exercise habit and to keep you accountable, so try and enter something each day.
At the end of the 10 Week Challenge you can download and review your overall performance.
